Hiram Pidgley was born 25th February 1878 on Portsea Island in Hampshire. He was the son of John Pidgley and Amelia Gritt.

Walter married Caroline Frances Gwyther in Portsmouth in 1902.

Walter was in the Royal Navy and the first ship that he served on was HMS. St. Vincent his first serving date was 18th July 1893 and the last ship he served on was HMS Pres 1V with his last serving date being 4th July 1919.

Walter’s Service Number was 175122. Looking through the records Hiram obviously served on many ships and was awarded a medal for his long service and good behavior.
