Bertie was born at Thorney Hill, near Christchurch in Hampshire in 1894, he married Alice Lamb on 3rd July 1916 and at this time they had already had twin boys in Edward and Bertie James that were born on 18th April 1916 and in 1929 Alice gave birth to their daughter Olive Louise James. Bertie returned safely from the War but it is not clear when he died.
