Bert Doe was born 1883 in Norleywood, Lyndhurst, Hampshire.He was the son of Alfred Doe and Angeline (Ann) Selina Hernon.He served in the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment and his service number was 31684 and served in the 6th Battalion.

The 6th battalion: Formed at Devizes in Sept. 1914-K2-to Salisbury Plain as Army Troops, 19th Div. Dec. 1914 to Basingstoke in billets and to 58th Bde. 19th Div. replacing 5th S.W.B. which became Pioneer Bn. Mar. 1915 Perham Down.

July 1915 landed in France.

20.9.17 amalgamated with Wiltshire Yeo. (14 officers and 232 men) and became 6th (Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry) Bn. The yeomanry regt. 1 had been serving as XV Corps Cavalry Regt.

13.5.18 reduced to training cadre, surplus to 2nd Bn., and to 30th Div.

16.6.18 joined 42nd Bde. 14th Div. at Boulogne and crossed to England. 18.6.18 at Brookwood reconstituted with newly-formed 9th Dorsets.

4.7.18 landed at Boulogne.

11.11.18 42nd Bde. 14th Div. Belgium; Dottignies, N. E. of Roubaix.


Bert married Edith Jeff in October 1905 and they were married in Lymington, Hampshire and had four children together.


A Photograph of Edith with Bert and her four children said to of been sent to Bert whilst he was serving.

Bert sadly died on 1st October 1917 and was killed in action in France and Flanders. He is buried in Ypres (leper) West Flanders in Belgium.
